Ezekiel14:3 “Son of man, these leaders have set up idols in their hearts. They have embraced things that will make them fall into sin. Why should I listen to their requests? 4 Tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: The people of Israel have set up idols in their hearts and fallen into sin, and then they go to a prophet asking for a message. So I, the LORD, will give them the kind of answer their great idolatry deserves.NLT
The people of Israel were fond of asking for direction from God when in actual fact they have decided in their heart what they wanted to do, they just consulted God as a formality. God told prophet Ezekiel to tell them that He would answer them according to the idols of their heart, that is their carnal desires. Instead of them to know God's mind, God will give them a go ahead to do whatever they wish.
It is very wrong to approach God with a made-up mind on issues that we should hear from Him. For example, if in your heart you've decided to marry a fair lady, slim and endowed or from a particular tribe, that is an idol you've set-up in your heart. Just as God did to the people of Israel, you may receive a direction in that line thinking it is God's perfect will for your life whereas it is not.
Romans12:1-2 made it clear that there is a perfect will of God. What we should desire and pursue is God's perfect will not our carnal desire. Take your time to demolish the idols of carnal desires from within, that way, you will hear God clearly.
Father, I demolish the idols of my heart In Jesus name.
