POSITIONING FOR DIRECTION. Pt.3
Proverbs 3:6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. NLT
DON'T BE SELECTIVE IN SEEKING
Over the years, my observation among church folks is that we often hear alot of "God told me she's my wife" when singles want to marry. That period when brothers&sisters are in need of a spouse is the period they pray asking direction from God. In most churches or campus fellowship, it is common to hear cases of several brothers telling one sister she's the chosen one. In fact, some will paint a graphic picture of the revelation they had. This leaves alot of sisters confused because when two to three 'spiritual' brothers are seeing one sister in a vision, sisters in such shoes may be confused except they've heard God clearly. As a preacher& counselor, I've seen several brothers who told me God spoke to them about a sister, entered into a relationship and later broke the relationship because they felt God wasn't in the relationship. Hey! But they said God led them into it. If you ask the average Christian single in a relationship how God led them into that relationship, they'll always have something to say but when such relationships break, you'll wonder if it wasn't God they heard at first.
The problem lies in the fact most people are not familiar with God's leading prior to marriage. They start learning to hear God at the point of marriage. Very risky. This account for the reason we have many fake "thus saith the Lord, you'll be my wife". The only time some church folks ever prayed asking God for direction
was when they wanted to marry. When they wanted to make decisions about traveling abroad, where to live, career and all that, nothing was said of seeking God's face. They made those decisions on their own but when it was marriage O' Clock, they began to ask God to lead. That's what I call selective seeking. You cannot hear God accurately on vital issue like marriage if you've not been hearing God on little things prior to marriage.
Divine direction is no magic. Only those that seek God in all things will be led in all things. The opening text enjoins that we seek God in ALL things not some things. Don't always think some things can be decided on your own without involving God. You're limited in knowledge. To master the leading of the Spirit, you must have the habit of hearing God on little things before the "big" things. This is a call to a closer walk with God. Those that have fellowship with God will not have problem hearing God. Don't be a believer who comes to God only when in need of direction. You must be regular with God and in touch with heaven. Your heart must be so submissive to God's will in all things. I pray you won't miss God.
Father, I receive the grace to seek you in all things and not to be selective in Jesus name
