POSITIONING FOR DIRECTION. Pt.1

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. NLT

GOD CAN BE TRUSTED

From my observation, some believers do not trust God enough to lead them in all areas of their lives. As a preacher/teacher of the Gospel, I've been asked several times by some singles: "What if God gives me a spouse I don't like"? As a matter of fact, the major fear of some persons from seeking the will of God is this. They have fears that God may not give them what they like. This is a distorted view of God that Satan has planted in the hearts of people. God is committed to giving you His very best. This may not be what you want but He'll surely give you what you need. This is what Jesus has to say on this matter: "You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him" (Matthew 7:9-11 NLT).

To think God will lead you into something that is harmful or not beneficial is to bring God to a level lower than that of our earthly parents. We serve a loving God that can be trusted. The day you understand the fatherhood of God, you will not have a hard time trusting Him for anything. In matters of divine direction, God is committed to ensuring you are in His will not yours. He's committed to leading you into what you need for your life not necessarily what you want. What we want might not be what we need. When you pray for direction and it seems God is not tilting towards what you desire, it is obvious God is willing to give what you need. In the mind of God, He is mindful of His plans and purpose for your life. That's why God won't give you just anything or lead you anyhow. You may not understand the rationale behind His leading sometimes but someday, it will make sense to you. The ways of God aren't our ways: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9).

To enjoy divine direction, your trust in God must be a blind trust. Abram trusted God blindly by leaving his father's house for an unknown destination just because he heard God. If he were to be in our generation, most people will call him a fool for setting out on a journey without a definite destination. God's expectation is for you to trust Him that He is God enough to lead you aright and not amiss. He want you to know that He has your best interest at heart. If you can settle this in your heart, you will not have a hard time hearing from God and obeying him. The latter part of that opening text says "do not depend on your own understanding". No matter how intelligent you are, you cannot lead yourself aright in life. Divine direction is not for the "Intelligent" nor for men who lean on their understanding, it is for those who can trust God blindly.
