BEWARE OF ANTI BIBLE PHILOSOPHIES Pt.5
Col2:8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.
HISTORICAL JESUS
Have you heard or read about "Historical Jesus Research"? If you haven't, I'll explain what this is all about. Those who hold on to this theory are saying that the Jesus we believe is different from the Jesus in history. That is, the Jesus that Christians have believed in for 2000 years and who is described in the four New Testament Gospels is not the Jesus who really walked the roads of Palestine in the first century. The picture presented to us by the gospels is said to be encrusted with traditions and myths created by the early church. This view present Jesus as a mythological figure that must be demythologized. Some even view Him as a philosopher. This historical Jesus view or theory is the reason some are saying the true Jesus that lived and walked the roads of Palestine married. Recently, I heard a preacher claimed that Jesus married eight wives. Some claimed he had a girl friend who bore him a child. All these assertions are an attack on the person of Jesus. I believe in the Christ revealed in the Bible.
The Jesus presented to us in the bible is the real Jesus not an historical Jesus: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" (Hebrews 13:8 NLT). He is not a philosopher like Plato, Aristotle, Cicero neither is he a mythological figure, He is real. Read what John the beloved said about Him: "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (for the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)"(1 John 1:1-2 KJV). Hallelujah!!! John presented to us a living Jesus that he saw, heard and touched. That's the Jesus of the bible that I believe in. He further made it clear that fellowship is possible with him: "that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ"(1 John 1:3 KJV). If Christ were to be a mythological figure, fellowship would have been impossible.
The Jesus of the bible is GOD: "No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, WHO IS HIMSELF GOD, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us"(John 1:18 NLT). Let's check another scripture to confirm this truth: “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though HE WAS GOD, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to” (Philippians 2:5-6). Paul using the past tense "Was" doesn't mean Jesus isn't God. He only used that tense to illustrate who Jesus was( and still is) when He wanted to take a subordinate role of a sufferer in His incarnation. Even old testament prophecy recognized Him as God: "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, MIGHTY GOD, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace"( Isa9:6). The Jesus I serve is not a figure in history, He is God himself. To create discrepancies about the person of Jesus is to undermine His deity and who the bible truly say He is.
CONFESSION: Jesus Christ is my God. He is my saviour, my Lord, my deliverer. I'm glad He's in me and I have fellowship with Him. I'm in love with him and He's in love with me. Some day, I shall see Him and be conformed to His very image. Hallelujah!!!
