WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO Pt.4

1Sam30:6 David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the LORD his God.

YOU NEED WISE COUNSEL

I heard the story of a rich man who had only one child. He was very wealthy by the standard of his time. When he was about to die, he decided to write a will. In his will, he said his son is entitled to pick just one thing from his properties and the remaining should go to his oldest slave of many years. The son was confused he didn't know what to do. The oldest slave of decades was elated because he knew that only one thing belong to the son of his master after his demise. He dreamt of how the big mansions would become his as soon as the heir chooses whatever he wanted. Alas! The rich man died. As the time for choosing the choicest property came, the son of this wealthy man became confused. He didn't know what to do.

He decided to seek counsel from the elders. The elders saw his state of confusion and they decided to share a secret with him. They told him that slaves are considered as property or assets in their culture and that slaves own nothing. They counseled him to choose the slave so that whatever the slave owns/ chooses will automatically belong to him. Upon hearing this wise counsel, he knew what to do. When the day came for him to make public his choice, the whole village gathered at the market square. The oldest slave who knew what was written in the will dressed like a king. He had praise singers following him. When he entered the market square, all eyes were on him. The time came for the son of this wealthy man to choose any of his father's properties. Most people expected him to choose a house or one of the farms owned by his father. He said "After seeking wise counsel, the only property I'll be choosing is my father's oldest slave." The moment the villagers heard that, they were baffled because they knew that choosing the slave gives him access and right of ownership to other properties owned by the slave.

Seek wise counsel when you don't know what to do. Oftentimes, the confusion in our heart is simply because we lack wisdom on the matter confronting us. In moments when you don't know what to do, seek wise counsel. You might be one counsel away from solution. In life, surround yourself with men who have depth in God and are in tune with God not foolish men like Jonadab. You will always need counsel at one point or the other in life. God didn't create us to be lone rangers, you don't know it all. The bible says, "Where there is no [wise, intelligent] guidance, the people fall [and go off course like a ship without a helm], But in the abundance of [wise and godly] counselors there is victory"( Proverbs 11:14, AMP).

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to heed wise counsel in Jesus name.
