ADD KNOWLEDGE TO VIRTUE
Apostle Peter is telling us to add another ingredient to our faith in Jesus. After virtue, he said we should add knowledge. If you do not study deeply, you may think that Peter was telling us to add knowledge gotten by information to virtue. That's not exactly what he was saying. The word knowledge in context is from the Greek "Epignosis". It was used 20 times in the bible, the epistles to be precise. This is the knowledge obtained by the knower by participating in the object known. This is full and exact knowledge gotten by relationship and fellowship. It is a special class of knowledge.
Let me explain it this way. There are many books on the shelf about women and men in relation to marriage. If you read those books, what you'll get is theoretical knowledge by learning. That type of knowledge is called 'Oida'. But when you marry and you start living with your spouse, you'll begin to have a precise and exact knowledge beyond what you read in the books because now, you're relating with the object- your spouse. At this level, you know your spouse by voice, body odour, character, and you can even predict his/her reaction under certain circumstances. You don't attain this kind of knowledge by reading books but my cordial relationship. That's Epignosis. In fact, some couples end up resembling each other after some years. That's the power of deep communion.
In your Christian walk, you can only get to this height of knowledge by relating with God consistently if your will is totally lost In his will. Think about the kind of communion that existed between Enoch and God, Abraham and God. They got to a level in God where their knowledge of God was not based on what they were told but by cordial relationship with God. At this level, the Spirit begins to impart God's knowledge into your human spirit. Apostle Paul operated at this level. That was why his insight into kingdom mysteries was unparalleled. He was sold out to God. Total surrender does it. As long as flesh is still in the way, you cannot attain "Epignosis".
Father, I receive grace to attain the level of full and exact knowledge of you through deep communion In Jesus name.
