At the end of every month, salary earners always expect their salaries to be paid. They're entitled to it because they worked for it. Adam worked for sin as it were and sin paid Adam the wages of death(Rom5:12). God told Adam that he would die when he eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, Gen2:17. And that was what happened. It didn't stop there, that same wages of death was paid to all humans because of the nature of sin that we inherited from Adam.
What type of death did Adam die? Adam died spiritually. That is, he was disconnected from God spiritually. Every man that doesn't have Jesus is a walking dead man. Why? Because the nature of sin in them has paid them (spiritual) death as their wages. Going further, if a sinner is not redeemed by the blood of Jesus, spiritual death will lead to eternal death in the lake of fire. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Rev20:14-15.
There's no redemption for any man that dies eternally. You can escape eternal death by embracing eternal life. The giver of eternal life is Christ( John3:16). God is not interested in sending men to hell as some may think. Hell was created for the devil and his angels( Matthew 25:41) but anyone who reject this offer of eternal life in Jesus shall join him there. Accept my invitation to eternal life.

Father, I believe in Jesus and what he did for me on the cross. Jesus, wash my sins and write my name in the book of life. I confess you as my Lord and personal saviour. Accept me, In Jesus name.
