In the early church, they chose seven deacons to assist in the distribution of food. I was surprised when they stated the criteria for selection. In Acts 6:3, the criteria were: 'men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom'. How I wish these is what we use as yardstick for putting men into deaconate roles today. In some cases, we use human criteria like: number of years spent in church even if he has not been committed, his closeness to Pastor and in some cases, money. These days, you'll see some pastors appoint people as deacons because of their fat pocket. So wrong!
That's just by the way. Among the deacons chosen, there was a man among them that stood out. His name is Stephen. Though he was a deacon chosen to work in food distribution, the Bible said he was full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. Thats the exploit of a food distributor in the early church. What made us think operating in the supernatural is only meant for those in the five-fold ministry? I read of a church where the greeters were so anointed to the point where they shake off cancers in people's bodies when they greet by shaking hands.
What about singing and getting people saved, healed, baptized and delivered during your ministration? As a sanitation member in church, it is possible to deposit a huge dose of power on those chairs as you clean them, and in the church toilet as you wash them. Limiting the operation of the miraculous to those in the five-fold ministry would not make us reach our world faster as we should. Lay men in the church go to places where five-fold ministers cannot go to. Imagine the souls an anointed market woman can win in the market while selling her goods. God is counting on ordinary men to finish the task of world Evangelization not trained ministers. You can operate in the supernatural.
