VICTORY OVER ANXIETY Pt.2

November 15, 2022 · Lanre Oyeleke · 5 views

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

AVOID WHATEVER FUELS ANXIETY

I read a story submitted by homiletics class of West Coast Baptist College.

In the story, there was a fellow who was about to jump from a bridge. An alert police officer slowly and methodically moved toward him, talking with him all the time.

When the officer got within inches of the man he said, “Surely nothing could be bad enough for you to take your life. Tell me about it. Talk to me.”

The would-be jumper told how his wife had left him, how his business had gone bankrupt, and how his friends had deserted him. Everything in life had lost meaning.

For thirty minutes he told the sad story—then they both jumped. That's sad. Anxiety is contagious.

After casting your worries on Jesus Christ in the place of prayers, you need to stay away from people and environment that can stir anxiety in you.

The more you listen to news and information about what your worries are, you'll be fueling the spirit of anxiety and demons will suggest several things to you.

At that moment, your imagination will tend to paint pictures of doom and horror.

Your anxiety may increase when those closest to you speak fear and despair into your hearing.

I've been there before. When I was infected with COVID virus, I noticed that I dwelt more on COVID-19 news. The more I read those news, the more I became anxious.

Almost every minute, my mind went to the number of mortality rate and statistics. The news about the virus filled my heart.

Thank God for the person I stayed with in Ghana. God used him for me as a faith support system.

You need faith-boosting people around you. They may not come around you but you must deliberately hunt for them. Choose your environment and circle of influence.

The bible says: "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.'(Prov27:17).

In challenging times, those that speak into your life matter alot. If those around you fuel your anxiety and feed it with negative news, it is wise to avoid such people.

You don't need a pity party around you. You need to be surrounded by faith-filled people who can stir your faith and help establish your heart on God's word and promises.

Action point

Father, I receive grace to stand strong in times of trials. I rebuke the spirit of anxiety in my life in Jesus name.
