Proverbs 28:13, He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy
I've heard several guilt-ridden believers say, "Maybe God hasn't forgiven me of my past sins". Some still live under the torment of somethings they've done in their past.
Now, these are born again, tongue-talking and devoted believers yet they live in doubt of God's mercy. Some never really believed they have become new creations. They live a defeated and weak life.
No thanks to religion and religious people who makes forgiveness look like "hardwork" involving rituals. In my few years as a believer, I've heard several theories on how to obtain forgiveness.
Some persons still believe until you fast and pray, the blood cannot cleanse you. I understand the place of penitence and all that yet the biblical prescription for receiving forgiveness is simple- CONFESS& FORSAKE.
Proverbs 28:13, "...but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy
If you can confess it, you can be forgiven of it! 1 John 1:says, “IF WE CONFESS our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.”
Regardless of what you've done, If you can confess it to God& forsake it, you will receive full pardon. There is no sin too great for God to forgive.
Isaiah 1:18 says, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool”.
The only sin God can’t forgive, is the one you won’t take to Him. Satan is working hard to make believers doubt God's mercy. Some think we water down the Gospel when we talk about God's mercy and the provisions we have in redemption.
Those who understand the riches of redemption and realize the love and goodness of God will never play with sin. The love of God leads us to genuine repentance.
Romans 2:4 says, “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”
Jeremiah 31:3, “…Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.”
The love of God is to draw us back to God. Christianity is the only faith that understands God's love this way. Other religion doubt God's love and mercy. They try to earn it with works yet they always feel they're not doing enough.
You can't do enough to earn God's love. The love of God for mankind is a deep mystery that can only be revealed by the Spirit of God via His word.
Paul prayed thus, "And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” If you want to be filled with the fullness of God, you need to understand this great love that God has for you"( Ephesians 3:19).
I love the way prophet Isaiah express this crucial point: “Therefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Him" (Isaiah 30:18 NASB).
In Luke 7, Jesus took a very sinful woman (likely a prostitute) and freely washed her clean without hesitation! Luke 7:47, “Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little".
Even in death, while Jesus was hanging on the cross, a murderer/criminal next to him received mercy. Jesus said unto him, “Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:43).
Genuine repentance brings joy to God: “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth*"( Luke 15:10). If truly there's joy in heaven when a sinner repent, why are you in doubt about God's forgiveness?
When God forgives, He also FORGETS our sins! He chooses not to remember our sins for HIS own sake!
Isaiah 43:25 says, “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins” (Also see Hebrews 10:17).
Psalms 103:12 says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us”.
Micah 7:19, “…he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea”.
Since God deem it fit to forget our sins, why should we bring them to rememberance after we have confessed and forsaken them?
Meditate on all the scriptures cited.
