SHAPING YOUR YEAR Pt. 6

January 06, 2021 · Lanre Oyeleke · 3 views

Proverbs 13:20 Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.NLT

A wise man said, "If you walk with 5 wise men, you're likely to be the 6th. If you walk with 5 millionaires, you're likely to be the 6th". What this wise man is trying to say is that we are a reflection of the company we keep. As the saying goes, "Your association determines your transformation". The bible says, "Don’t be fooled by those who say such things, for “bad company corrupts good character”, 1Cor 15:33 NLT.

The counsel Amnon received from his friend was his undoing. He was surrounded by a shrewd friend named Jonadab who gave him a counsel that led to his death, 2Sam13:3. The Psalmist knew the power of association. In one of his writings he said, "I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers", Psalms26:4. Whether we like to admit or not, we all are products of our association and we operate under the influence of someone or the association we belong to.

You can shape your year correctly by doing an audit of your company. You have the power to determine those you'll walk with and cut-off from those that aren't leading you towards the actualization of your goals and vision. Friendship is not by force, it should be by choice. You can be successful by association and can fail because of wrong association. Start associating with men and women going in your direction. Walk with those who can help you attain your desired goal. Don't waste time staying in the company of fools lest you become one.
