When I started using a vehicle, my experience with automobile technicians was not palatable. I've been lied to and exploited several times. After writing my final exams in the university, I waited for seven months for my NYSC call-up letter. If I had known, I would have acquired a skill in automobile repairs during those waiting periods. I discovered that the guys who repaired my vehicle were almost always busy repairing a vehicle and making money. What they make in a week is more than what some salary earners are making in a month save that most of them do not have a saving culture.
After that experience, my eyes opened to the need for skill acquisition. One of the things you may need to do to shape your year going forward may be to acquire a skill you can monetize or trade with. We live in an economy where white collar jobs can't go round considering the number of graduates our tertiary institutions churn out every year. Even in advanced nations, government do not provide jobs for everyone except that they provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
Regardless of the nature of your job, you can learn a skill so that you'll have an additional stream of income. A wise man said everyone must have at least four sources of income. Even if you work as a salary earner, you can offer certain services after work or during weekends that will put extra cash in your pocket using the skill you have acquired. There is nothing to be ashamed of if the services you're offering is legitimate even if it is Uber driving as long as your bills are paid. You owe no man any explanation. Acquire a skill, offer a service to people that will open up another stream of income for you. That way, you'll be shaping your finances for this year and years to come.
