Proverbs 13:22: “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children.” (NKJV)
My dad often talked about how fervent the brethren were in the 70s. The message of that era was centred on heaven and most of them thought the rapture would occur in that decade. One of the things they taught them was that they shouldn't bother about having an estate here on earth because heaven is home. Truly, heaven is home and no one is disputing that. However, one need to be wise about living on earth as well. Most of them had the privilege of buying landed properties and building a house at least but they didn't see much importance in that.
One of the extremes my uncle told me about was that they were told not to have more than N3500 in their account because their money would waste when Christ comes. That generation truly served and loved the Lord but most of them suffered for their lack of wisdom. Unbelievers built houses and they began to collect rent from the saints. It became so bad that some of the believers rented houses from anti Christ. They began to fight avoidable battles with landlords who do not like their faith. I once enquired about a house for rent years back. The landlord told us he doesn't want a Christian in house.
Dearest, one of the things you should include in your plans this year is the plan to build. It is lack of financial intelligence to live and die paying rent. You must take out the burden of rent from your finances sooner or later. Rent doesn't decrease, it increases. One of the absurdities I've seen is when high earning educated folks pay so much on rent to keep up with the Joneses while illiterates who serve under them take the pain to build. I heard about a Professor who lived in staff quarters all his years in service. When his time was up, he began to cry because he had no place to go yet his personal driver was a landlord. Now that there are opportunities to buy and build in developing areas, take advantage. Every city developed from a bush.
Father, I receive wisdom in Jesus name.
