Proverbs1:5 A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: KJV
When I wanted to enrol in the seminary, I needed a senior Pastor in my church to sign for me as a refree. When I presented the form to him, he asked to know if I needed to enrol in the seminary. To him, he felt I don't need it probably because he had heard me preach and teach. Also, i have preached in several places within and without with the manifestation of God's power. All these may be the reason he asked to know if I needed a formal training in scriptures. However, deep within me, there was a hunger to learn and know God's word more. I enrolled and I became better for it. The things I thought I knew back then were put in the right perspective for me and my eyes opened to a lot of things I didn't know. One of the ways to shape your year is through continuous learning. Wise people commit themselves to learning and not just that but continuous learning whether formal or informal. A wise man said, "The more you learn the more you'll discover you don't know".
In my personal opinion, one of the things that prevent people from learning is pride. A proud man will never submit himself to learn especially from those he thinks are below him in status whereas most teachers do not always have the "status" yet they know what they know and can impart the knowledge to their learners to attain "status". Do you notice that the world celebrates star footballers more than coaches? Yet, we know that no matter how talented a player is, it takes the help of a coach for him to attain stardom. The day he refuse to listen to the tactics and game plan of the coach, that's the day he'll start having problem. You may have height but you need men of depth to teach you and help you solidify your rising.
Do not waste your year by operating on the same level of knowledge you operated on last year. Go and learn. There are books you can read that'll make you better and increase your productivity on the job, ministry and business. As the saying goes, "The day you stop learning you'll start dying". You can never get to the point in your life where learning will stop except at death. It has been discovered that top billionaires in the world are readers and they're given to continuous learning. Also, excellent leaders have also been discovered to be avid readers. When one of the former president of U.S.died, the last book he read was found under his pillow. Little wonder why that nation is great. Jesus learnt through study. He said, "Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God", Heb10:7. How did he know what was written about him if he hadn't read? One of the reasons Apostle Paul was exceptional was because he was given to continuous learning. Talking to Timothy, he said, "The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments", 2Tim4:13. There'll always be a difference between a man that is committed to learning and the man that is not. Keep learning, get trained.
Father, I receive the grace for continuous learning in Jesus name.
