Psalms103:2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
When you read through the book of Psalms, David rendered praises unto God for his personal life and for the nation of Israel, he thanked God for events that happened years before he was born. He thought about the deliverance of God for his life and for the nation of Israel.
Most times, we are full of complaints and requests. When we check our prayer request, most times we are asking for something. God had a soft spot for David because his life was an example of what it is to be grateful. Only the the grateful becomes great and those that are not grateful will be a great fool.
Think about what the Lord has done for you in time past. Thank him for when you were a baby, infant, adolescent and now as an adult. Your life has been through several dangers but God saw you through. Start recounting the benefits you derived from his mercies and do not forget them. Even if you have nothing to thank God for, thank him for the gift of life because there's hope for a better tomorrow.
