OPEN THE DOOR FOR HIM

July 29, 2023 · Lanre Oyeleke · 4 views

Rev 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me ( NIV).

It is common to hear evangelists use the opening text when preaching to sinners that they might accept Christ. However, the context shows that Jesus was referring to a church( believers) in Asia minor not unbelievers.

Why was he knocking on the door of their hearts? He knocked on the door of their hearts because He wanted to eat with them. Does he eat human meals?

In his incarnation, he ate food made by humans but now in his glorified state (resurrected body), he doesn't eat human meals. What food was implied in the text above? It is fellowship.

This word is not limited to what we do when we come together. It refers to the depth of our closeness with the father. A communion.

Now that you're born again, it is possible that Jesus may be knocking on the door of your heart for deeper fellowship. That's his food. Fellowship is all about intimacy.

Often, I use my paternal uncles as illustration for fellowship. My uncles sound alike with my dad. Most times, strangers find it hard to identify who is talking because they sound alike.

However, If they're all talking at once, I can identify my dad's voice and the identities of each of them. This is possible for me because over the years, I've fellowshipped with my dad to the point where I don't need to see his face to identify his voice.

Once I hear his voice, that's all I need because I'm fully acquainted with His voice. "Your inability to identify God's voice/leading is a pointer to a weak fellowship with him".

The Christian journey should be progressive and not static. We are meant to be so close to God in a way that our lives would be enwrapped in him totally.

There is a realm higher than where you're operating. Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart, saying: "I want to eat with you." You cannot exhaust the several dimensions in God, the more you know him, the more you'll discover so many things yet unknown about him.

That was the reason why Paul said, "That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;"(Phil3:10). Paul was already a great Apostle with great depths of revelations, yet fellowship was his desire.

This is not the time for casual Christianity. Fellowship is not limited to what you do when you pray or study the bible. It is the consciousness of God that you carry around everywhere knowing that you can be in touch with him anytime.

Action point

Jesus, I am hungry, I want to dine with you. To know you more and to see you as you are.
