Sometimes ago, I acted irrationally. On a certain night, when my wife and I retired to bed I told her to pray. Often, after the general family prayers, we normally pray together alone before sleeping.
I lead prayers often, let's say 99% of the time even during the general family devotion. On this terrible night, I told her to handle the family prayers but she refused.
I pushed the responsibility to her but she kept pushing it back to me. Funnily, there were times she led the prayers but on that terrible night, she refused. I became angry. Out of anger, I did not pray and we slept like that. I fumed.
The Holy Spirit rebuked me for not fulfilling my role and responsibility. Now, you wouldn't know how angry I was even when God's Spirit was rebuking me.
I felt I have been doing all the teaching& praying in the house so it wouldn't be too much for her to pray that night. Later, God made me realize that priests don't delegate their priestly duties.
It doesn't mean that women cannot pray for their families. In fact, most women do that more but it is the primary responsibility of men to lead their families into God's presence because of their priestly role in the family.
If we call for prayer meetings in our churches, you can be so sure that more women would be in attendance than men. It shouldn't be.
A priest represent men to God. His duties include intercession, offering of sacrifices and teaching people the ways of the Lord. As a husband in the home, the afore mentioned are your responsibilities.
God is not happy when men can't pray with and for their families. God is sad when fathers do not teach their families the ways of the Lord.
Eli was a High priest in Shiloh, he performed his temple priestly duties well( to the best of our knowledge) but he failed in his family priestly duties. His failure in the latter affected his temple reputation.
Men, step into your God-ordained priestly role and be the father God designed you to be.
Father, I receive the grace to succeed in my family priestly duties In Jesus name.
