Jeremiah3:15 And I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will guide you with knowledge and understanding (NLT).
TO BE GUIDED WITH KNOWLEDGE
Over the years, In my interaction with some persons who reached out to me for counseling, I observed a pastoring gap in their lives.
That gap stemmed from the fact that they lacked the knowledge a pastor would have equipped them with. These people fall into two categories.
The first category are not regular in their various churches so they missed out on what their pastors should have taught them. They are not submissive to the spiritual growth structure of the church yet they are complaining and looking for what is not lost.
The second category have a pastor over them and are committed to the growth structure of their churches but the quality of what they're being fed from the pulpit is not good enough. They are feeding on a diet that is not balanced. Spiritually, they are malnourished.
One benefit you'll derive from proper pastoring is that you'll grow in knowledge of the word. That is why genuine pastors don't joke with bible study and accurate teaching of scriptures.
The quality of your spiritual diet determines the quality of your spiritual growth.
Genuine pastors who knows their onions will teach you how to apply scriptures to your daily life. If you come under true shepherds, you will not be afraid to discuss issues with them except you want to remain that way.
When people bypass their pastors and take their issues to the wrong places, it is either they don't know the role of their pastors or the pastor is not capable as perceived. That's why pastors must keep growing too.
I have heard about pastors who scattered families with wrong counsel instead of helping them to build godly homes. This is not the portrait of a new testament pastor.
Does he place value on teaching the scriptures? What does he teach? How does he live his life? Can you imitate him just as he is imitating Christ? Does he have integrity? All these should be considered before submitting yourself for pastoring.
It is unwise to stay under a pastoral care that doesn't care or doesn't have the requisite knowledge to lead you out of issues. It has always been fatal and would always be fatal.
You don't use church membership to reward or please a pastor who is not feeding you properly neither do you attend a church because of its popularity when you know the pastoring you're getting there is poor.
I see alot of this today. They know they're in the wrong place but they choose to stay because it is the happening church in town. Such persons don't value their spiritual growth.
God's promise to you and me is that he would give us pastors after His own heart (talking about those called genuinely) who will guide the sheep with knowledge and understanding.
If you're under a genuine shepherd, submit yourself to the spiritual growth structure he has set and be fed properly. Stay there and stop jumping from church to church.
Father, I receive grace to learn and grow In Jesus name.
