In the Old testament, the carriers of God's message were the priests and prophets of God. The priest was a mediator between God and man and at other times, God would speak to his people through the prophets of God. That implied that the people do not have access to God independently except through the priests and prophets.
When Jesus died, the veil of the temple was torn thereby giving us access to the father without needing a priest or a prophet. In this dispensation, God gave us a model to follow and that is Christ. If you want to hear God and know who God is, look at Christ. He is the express image of God.
Do not join the bandwagon of those seeking special revelation or dreams and visions from a prophet. If you need to hear anybody, please hear Christ. Take a dive into his words, that is God speaking to you expressly. We often miss it when we want to hear something different from God's word as spoken through Christ.
Christ is the model of the church. In these last days, God is speaking to us through his Son- Christ. Glory!
