1Tim1:19- Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked. NLT
My head pastor in church would say that if you don't have the Holy Spirit, you have a conscience. The conscience of a true believer has been placed there by God as a spiritual detector. When a man's conscience is alive, then his walk with God is equally alive as well.
Paul described a group of people who deliberately violated their conscience and now they've shipwrecked their faith. When you constantly and deliberately disobey your conscience, you will not be able to discern what is right or wrong anymore. A time will come when what is wrong becomes right to you because nothing pricks your heart.
Prompt obedience refreshes your conscience. It keeps it alive. Never toy with the promptings of the Spirit no matter how little it is. Simply obey them.
