Jude1:3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. KJV
To contend means to fight or to stand in defence of someone or something. When we also talk about the faith that was once delivered unto the saints, here we are talking about fundamental beliefs upon which a the early Christians built their lives. So to earnestly contend for the faith is to avoid the slightest alteration in the fundamental Christian belief.
You do not need to be physically violent in this type of contention but it requires holding on to the truth tightly against popular opinion. There are lots of heresies in town that isn't in sync with our fundamental Christian beliefs. If you swallow them without proper scrutiny, you stand the risk of falling away.
Some have abused graced and used the privilege of grace to wrought terrible things in wickedness forgetting the fact that the purpose of grace is to live a life pleasing to God. If Jesus comes, will he meet the faith on earth? I've always heard some of our fathers talk about the revival of 1970s in Nigeria. When we compare what we have today with what we were told, we are far from it.
Let's rise and content for that unity in the body of Christ that once existed, devotion and kingdom dedication that was handed down to the early saints.
