Rom3:21-22-" But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law... We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ..."
Imagine that you need a fruit on a very tall tree but you couldn't climb it. You tried with a ladder but your hands couldn't just reach for the fruit you desire. Now, a very tall man showed-up on the scene of your hopelessness to pluck the fruit for you without your input. Your duty is just to give him the go ahead to do that for you, please won't you allow him? I know you would give him the go ahead.
That is exactly what happens when we try to be righteous without the help of the one that can give it to you without your works. Christ has plucked that fruit we desire for us. Glory!!! All religion in the world preaches works, it is only in Christianity grace exist. Every religion is trying to attain the God-kind of righteousness through several means but Christ has done that for us.
When you don't walk in the reality of this understanding, the devil will always wipe you. He will make you struggle with all your energy to attain a status with God but it doesn't work that way. I have seen people take pride in certain piety and life-style as the reason why God have a special disposition towards them but that's trying to please God through works.
If righteousness can be attained by self-rules and regulations, our struggles will never end.
