PAUL'S PERSPECTIVE ABOUT LIFE AND DEATH

August 22, 2019 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Romans 14:7-9 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.

Sometimes, I have had the cause to ask believers if they want Jesus Christ to come now. Most of the responses I got were not positive. Some said they want to marry, others said they want to give birth to their own children while a vast majority gave various reasons on why they want the coming of Jesus to be delayed. I am very sure I'll get the same answer if I ask people if they are ready to die. Apostle Paul is a kingdom enigma whose writings need to be studied over and over. His perspective about eternity is unique especially when compared with other epistles. Paul clearly stated that being alive should be for Christ and even if we die, we die to the Lord. That's deep.

Your being alive should be to serve one person and His purpose- CHRIST. Believers who have come to know Christ intimately are living for one person and purpose. They so much trust and entrust their whole life to him to a point where they are not afraid of death because even in death, Christ is glorified. When a believer sleeps in the Lord having done his part of kingdom assignment, Christ is glorified not the devil. Paul called that kind of death 'gain'. It is a profit not a loss regardless of the age. Philippians 1:21 says, 'For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain'.

Christ is the reason why we are alive because he want us to live for him alone. Your desire should be to please him and live for him. Our purpose in Christ must be discovered and pursued till he calls. Can we talk like Paul who was ready to go all out for Christ even to the point of dying for Him? The early church weren't doing special vigils on long life so that witches and wizards won't prey on them. They knew their life was hidden in Christ who is in God so they weren't afraid of death. Their focus was on kingdom expansion through missions. Their whole life was wired that way. Serving God requires being resolute.

Action point
