MY ADVICE TO SINGLE LADIES

August 17, 2019 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Eccl11:4 He who observes the wind will not sow and he who regards the cloud will not reap. NKJV

Recently, I was discussing with my wife about a common mentality some people have about single ladies that are pursuing their dreams. There’s this erroneous belief system that a single lady should not pursue her dreams because she’s waiting for her future husband. The assumption is that when a woman is making progress in her career, she wouldn’t have a suitor. I think that’s not the case. There are families that paused the progress of their daughters because they feel what is next for her is to marry. Some of these girls waited and wasted productive years before marrying. Eventually, it dawned on some of them that if they had pursued their dreams, they’ll still marry the same man or even better.

Let’s look at it from this perspective. If a lady’s dream is to become a professor in her field, you’ll agree with me that would take time. Assuming she finish her first degree at 22 years of age and she waited for four years hoping a man would come but failed to come. She would be 26 by then. Then she decides to start her Masters, which shouldn’t be more than two years. Upon completion, she’ll be 28. For how long should she wait for a husband before pursuing her PhD? I only used academics as an example. I have seen those that waited till they are almost 40 years before getting a spouse. Some added value, some remained stagnant yet still remained single. It is high time you knew that it is unwise to pause your progress because you’re waiting for a husband. God hates unproductivity.

That mentality that makes you think your progress might hinder your marriage is anti God. As believers, we live by faith and walk with God by faith. Imagine expectant couples saying they wouldn’t acquire properties because they don’t have a child yet. Have they closed the door on God? You must understand that God has a plan for you and your path in life has been predestined by God to be glorious. There’s a man that would love and accept you, just be humble and don’t flaunt your achievement. If you stay humble as a single lady, you're a precious jewel in God’s sight and gift to any man. Don’t waste away because you’re waiting for ‘Mr Right’. There are things you may not achieve easily in marriage, now that there’s time and strength, please don’t waste it, invest it.

Action point

Father, I know you have a good plan for my marriage. I refuse to waste away because of waiting. I receive grace to be productive while waiting on you for a spouse knowing fully that he would come in due season In Jesus name.
