Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children. NIV

FINANCIAL EDUCATION

A friend told me about a man who was livid with his wife because she had a custom of buying expensive jewelries on credit. It got to a point where her creditors would come knocking on their gate because of debt. Her husband was always at loggerheads with her because he felt embarrassed whenever her creditors come knocking on their door. Money problems is one of the major causes of friction in some homes. Aside sexual problems and character flaws, money problem comes after. There are couples that agree on everything except on money matters. In some marriages, some wives are complaining about the failure of their husbands to invest and inability to put money in the right place while some husbands complain about the financial profligacy of their wives.

In homes where couples are not making enough that can sustain the home, one may overlook whatever friction they may be facing as regards finances and attribute it to low or inconsistent income. However, what do we say about homes where there's a regular flow of money from both sides yet money keeps causing frictions ? In essence, the cause of disagreements on finances is not low income per se but lack of financial education and intelligence.* That's the root cause of most financial riots in the home not because of the insufficiency of money. If you look around, you'll see couples with very low income who do not argue or fight over money ( no matter how small) because they have the right attitude to money and can manage it properly.

As a single, this is the time to invest in quality financial education. Qualitative financial education will teach you how to make money, multiply it and manage it for judicious use. If you don't know these things, start learning them now. Invest in books and seminars that will be beneficial to you in this area. This is the best time of your life to be enterprising and to lay the foundation for multiple streams of income. Develop the right attitude to money. Stop spending on impulse and be responsible with money. Some folks show gross financial irresponsibility by borrowing and not repaying while some spend on pleasure only at the expense of other important things.

If your financial goal is to spend on things that don't add value on long term, you need to reset your goals. The journey to learning about money should start now so as to avoid future problems.
