Hosea 4:6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children. NIV
INFORMATION INVESTMENT
Averagely, It takes the first 20-22 years of one's life to acquire a complete education from primary school to tertiary level for those that secure admission on time. Some graduated from higher institution at the age of 25 and above. The point I'm trying to make here is that we spend two decades plus before acquiring a first degree. Much of what we got in school is information and training for career. So much investment goes into acquiring a degree so that we can be established in a career but most people don't prepare for marriage until a few years before marriage. If a man attains the highest height in career but fails in marriage, he may regret it all his life. Our teachers taught us to be doctors, nurses, engineers, educators etc. They taught us the different types of families in social studies but they didn't teach us how to be good husbands and wives. Lack of adequate preparation and equipping is the reason why some marriages are failing. How I wish singles can be schooled about marriage before entering into it.
In the secular world, no company will employ an untrained fellow especially for professional roles. Marriage is a professional venture that requires adequate preparation. It is a microcosmic church where lives are moulded and where the foundation for a righteousn nation is laid. It is not too late if you're still single. You can invest solid preparation into your marital future from now. It takes adequate information and mentoring to be prepared. You have to prepare yourself to be a good husband and wife. You can do this through studying and mentoring. This is the time to get good books about marriage and learn from those who have gone ahead of you in marriage. God frowns at ignorance: "Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst."(Isaiah5:13).
When you read, your horizon becomes broad. As a single brother, read books that centre on the role, perspective and function of a woman in marriage and vice versa. Through good books and adequate mentoring, you'll understand gender differences and how these things play out in marriage. When you're armed with that knowledge, you'll know how to weather certain storms. Further, you can learn about parenting as a single and decide the kind of upbringing you'll give your children. We live in a world of useful documented information. As you invest in your physical appearance, do not forget to invest in your brain. Your library is a pointer to how serious you are about your marital future. Don't enter into marriage ignorantly.
Father, I receive grace to prepare myself in Jesus
