BUILDING STRENGTH THROUGH THE WORD

In a Christian movie, a young man was tormented by demons. A preacher came to him severally persuading him to give his life to Christ. He refused the offer of free salvation but after sometime, he yielded. However, the torment continued because he didn't have adequate understanding of God's word. The preacher that led him to Christ showed him several portions of the bible and taught him how to rebuke the devil. The young man who was fearful became strengthened in his inner man and he became the master of his circumstances. The moment the devil saw that he had developed inner strength from God's word, he went into hiding. When adversity comes, the word of God in us will sustain and strengthen us. When the devil tempted Jesus, the reply he got from Jesus was, "It is written". Jesus had enough inner strength in him to withstand the devil because he knew what was written.

One of the reasons why we eat is to have enough strength to carry on our daily activities. A man that is malnourished and starved cannot undertake strenuous task. People go to the gym to build muscles and keep fit. Just as it is in the physical so it is in the spiritual. We build ourselves through the word of God. Apostle Paul said, "And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified"(Acts20:32). Hallelujah!!! The more of God's word in you, the stronger you become because the word has the power to build strength into us. There are believers who faint in the days of adversity. Some seek after ungodly alternatives or solution because they haven't built strength from the word.

When the storms of life come, it will shake you from the foundation to check if your convictions about what is written in the word are true. Convictions must be tested. It is not about the volumes of scriptures you can quote but how rooted you are in it. You need to be regular with the word just as you are with your food. In the days of adversity, strength gained from physical food and muscles built in the gym wouldn't matter as much as the strength built into your inner man by the word of God. Do not just be a reader of scriptures but take out time to study and understand it daily. Understanding comes through study. It is the accurate understanding of the word that strengthens. Jesus had enough word in him to confront the devil, what will you tell him when he comes?

Action point

Father, as from today, I receive grace to be regular with the word of God in Jesus name.
