Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. KJV
I have been in several meetings where people were baptized in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. I have heard several messages on being empowered by the Spirit and the many reasons given for empowerment. So many want the power of the Holy Spirit so that they can perform miracles and attract crowd. Some are hungry for power so that they can live a victorious life. All these reasons are fine but they aren't the primary purpose of the Spirit's empowerment.
As a preacher of the gospel, I know that people revere and follow those who operate in the miraculous and that's why many preachers who promise miracles command large followership. The reason why some are spending time on the prayer mountain is to receive the power that will attract crowd. Jesus told us what the power will do in us and for us. The power of the Holy Spirit is essentially to be a witness for Jesus. Not for pulling crowd. Every other thing are just an icing on the cake. The true manifestation of that power is when you preach or share the gospel with sinners.
What are you doing with that power you received? The power of the Holy Spirit is to facilitate the greatest miracle which is salvation. It is good to speak in tongues but it is better to preach the gospel in the strength of the tongues spoken. It is good to place proper emphasis on why the Holy Spirit is empowering the church so that we don't see speaking with new tongues as a thing of spiritual status. The work of soul-winning is not for Evangelists alone. God sent the Holy Spirit to empower the church so that we can all get on the field of souls and bring in the ripe harvest.
Father, I receive the grace to be a soul winner in Jesus name.
