Proverbs24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.KJV
There was an atheist who was formerly a Christian. His twin sister took ill to the point of death. He told God that he would stop following him if his twin sister dies. Eventually, she died and he became an atheist. Another example is the story of Job's wife. During the trials of Job, she said to Job: "Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die"(Job2:9). From the two examples, we see a situation where people turned their back against God because of adversity.
The true test of your strength and stamina in God would be revealed during adversity not when things are running smoothly. You may not know where you stand until life deal a heavy blow on you. How you react during the heat of pain, frustration, disappointment and rejection will reveal your strength. Some persons abandoned the faith totally because they felt God disappointed them or were neglected by him while others still identified with God by merely going to church but sought for help in Egypt because Egypt and its allures took hold of their heart. How are we going to know if truly you've decided to follow Christ to the end if there's no persecution or adversity that threatens your faith? The early disciples of Christ were not spared from trials and our generation will not be spared either. Those who told you that the being in Christ is a smooth sail without challenges are either deluded or ignorant.
Apostle Paul faced a lot of trials in the course of his earthly ministry. He got to a point where he said, 'Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?"(Rom8:35). He must have faced a lot when he made this statement. If you're beginning to consider ungodly alternatives to solving your problems or may be you're drifting backwards because you feel disappointed, your strength is small. Adversity will come to test your spiritual strength and reveal your character. Will you stand under the pressure of adversity or fall for compromise?
Father, I receive strength to stand firm in the days of adversity in Jesus name.
