Proverbs24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.KJV

FASTING- STRENGTHENING YOUR SPIRIT MAN

There's something about fasting and prayer our generation need to rediscover. When I read the book of Luke 2:37, I saw what was said about Anna: "And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day." Serving God with fasting and prayer is something worth knowing more about. When the disciples of Jesus Christ couldn't cast out a demon, Jesus said: "However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting”(Matt17:21). Jesus Christ was prepared for the various challenges that laid ahead of him in ministry because fasting and prayer laid the foundation of his ministry. He built inner strength through fasting and prayer so handling what came his way wasn't a challenge. In fact, we can say that he prepared for the cross on his knees.

I noticed that those given to a life of fasting and prayer do not get weighed by the adversities of life. Those that have formed the habit of waiting on God consistently operate from an unusual dimension of spiritual strength when life deal a heavy blow on them. Most people do not fast and pray until they run into crisis little wonder why they get overwhelmed when trouble days come. Prophet Isaiah said, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."(Isaiah 40:31 KJV). Waiting on God primarily mean to hope in God or to trust him. Also, one of the ways to wait on God is to stay in the place of self denial from pleasures -fasting. It is good that adversity meets us strengthened already. If adversity meets you weak and decrepit spiritually, you may collapse.

When you fast and pray, you're not changing God neither are you impressing him. When you fast, you're doing it to make your spirit man more sensitive to spiritual things and to be attuned to the flow of spiritual vitality. Fasting doesn't make God better, it makes you better and prepares you for what lies ahead. It is not even fasting that gives power as some think. The power of God was given to you when you got baptized in the Holy Spirit. However, fasting makes you sensitive to that power more and opens you up to operate in the various dimensions of that power. Just imagine what happens when you're tuning your radio to a desired frequency. The closer you get to the desired frequency, the clearer the signal. Fasting tunes you to the frequency of heaven. The strength you need to withstand and conquer adversity is already available, fasting and prayer is one of the ways you can access it. Don't joke with fasting and prayer, it helps.

Action point

I rebuke the spirit of laziness in the place of prayer and fasting in my life. My belly, you shall not be my Lord in Jesus name.
