Luke 12:15 Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” NLT
In today's world, there is a system put in place in almost all countries to rank people's wealth and material possession. We know the richest man in the world and those behind him on the ladder. Here in my country, I have seen how wealthy people are given a special honour. We have a society that gives regard to those with heavy pocket regardless of how they made their money. The coming generation has also started the rat race of wealth pursuit not minding what it'll cost them because of the value money gives to their personality.
Unfortunately, some believers are caught in this web including some ministers of the gospel. Some are preaching the gospel for greedy gain. About such persons, Paul said, "Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.'(Phil3:19)They can raise offering using gimmicks or they monetize the anointing if they have any. They have seen how others were ranked as prominent and important in the ministry. They began climbing a ladder that is leaning on the wrong wall- greed. Jesus said that possession of material things and worldly wealth is not a good way to assess your life. It is very wrong to think that wealth is equal to a sound walk with God.
In a society like ours where people are bowing to Mammon, we may be tempted to join the rat race but Jesus said, "Beware! Guard against every kind of greed". Jesus wouldn't have said we should guard against different kind of greed if it won't come knocking on the door post of our heart. Stop comparing your life with the progress of another man. The moment you start doing that, unhealthy discontentment will set in and you'll be pushed to get the things of this world at all cost. Man may measure the quality of life by material possession but God's parameters for assessing a man's life is totally different. Eternal labour and quality walk with God is God's way of measuring life not wealth or the size of your congregation. The things that perish on earth has no eternal value. Jesus said, 'But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”( John6:27)
Father, deliver me from greed in Jesus name.
