Several years ago, while on campus as an undergraduate, I was in-charge of a group of believers who were under training to become workers in my fellowship. We called it "School of The Word". On one of the days, one of my students couldn't make it to one of our meetings because he was sick. I removed the basketball jersey I wore on a top that day and I sent it through someone to have it laid on him in the hostel. As it got to him, he got his healing.
I did not pray any special prayer on the jersey. I just knew by the Spirit that there was virtue in what I wore. I preached in a crusade years back in Benin republic, by the Spirit, I told all the women in that meeting that their scarfs was carrying power. I instructed them to lay it on the sick when they get home. The following day, several people came out to testify about what the Lord did when they laid the scarf on the sick. A woman laid it on a machine that wasn't working. As soon as she did, the machine began to work.
In John 7:37-38, Jesus says, In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. [38] He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water"(KJV).
In the text above, the operations of the Spirit in the life of a believer that is baptized with the Spirit can be likened to that of a flowing river. It is not static, it flows. That is why Jesus said out of our belly shall flow rivers of living waters, referring to the baptism with the Spirit.
The moment a believer is baptized with the Spirit, power begins to flow out of that person to others. That is the plan of God for all his children. His power is not for our benefit alone but for all. He wants us to be conduits or channels through which his power will flow to others. The power received at baptism can flow. It is not static.
Speaking about the overflowing power of the Spirit in the life of Paul in Acts 19:12, the bible says, "When handkerchiefs or aprons that had merely touched his skin were placed on sick people, they were healed of their diseases, and evil spirits were expelled". This is awesome. The power flowed to the point where the skin of Paul embodied it. Just a mere touch of aprons with the skin of Paul, an ordinary piece of clothing receives a transference of power.
Another example of that overflow can be seen in the life and ministry of Peter. In Acts 5:25, the bible says, "Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them". Tell me, don't you like this?
It was not even Peter that told them to bring the sick so that his shadow might fall on them. The people recognized the power of the Holy Ghost flowing through him and they acted by faith. They were the ones who brough the sick towards Peter so that his shadows might heal them. This is one of the reasons God sent his Spirit to baptize believers so that power can flow from them to others. I have heard testimonies about those who received their healing by touching the t.v. screen when a preacher was preaching. Some got their healing via a radio or internet broadcast. That is a flowing of power at work. How can we take our world for Jesus If power is not flowing from us to others?
Your life and ministry will change the moment you are baptized with the Spirit. God want his power to flow through you to others. That is one of the ways to prove the Lordship of Christ.
