Recently, I took someone to the hospital on emergency. In less than 48 hours, hundreds of thousands was spent majorly on tests. There I concluded that it is better to prevent sickness by all means possible than to find a cure for it. Getting a cure for sickness is expensive but prevention is cheap.
Most of the life threatening diseases that takes life today can be prevented If detected early with proper precautions taken including cancer.
Most people of the faith do not take their health serious especially when they are told to do a general body check up, see the doctor or abstain from certain foods. They see it as anti faith. Some ask, "Why should I check my health when I am not sick"?
Well, you don't do a health check up because you are sick. You do it to prevent being sick. This has to be done at least twice a year or as recommended.
Unfortunately, some preachers contributes to people taking their health with levity through their imbalanced preaching and teaching. Checking the state of your health is not a sin neither is it anti faith. It is simply a display of ignorance not to do so and it kills faster than sickness itself.
The book of Hosea 4:6 says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge...". Isaiah 5:13 says,"Therefore my people are gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge: and their honourable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst". Though the context of these scriptures isn't about health but message therein is applicable to our subject.
Several years back when I had a slightly raised blood pressure towards my 34th birthday, I made it a point of duty to give myself a yearly birthday gift of doing a comprehensive medical check up in one of the best medical laboratories around. Ever since, I have not had a reoccurence. I have adjusted my lifestyle and diet as advised. Though not easy but i'm trying my best.
Most of those (including some preachers) who tell you they have not been to the hospital in years are doing regular medical check up on their health and they're taking necessary precautions especially in their diet. Some take quality supplements, good food, water, live in clean environment and they exercise moderately to stay in health.
In one of Benny Hinn's books that I read, he said he doesn't climb the altar to preach except his doctor clear him to do so after checking his blood pressure. In his ministry team, there is a doctor that goes everywhere with him. Now, that's one of the foremost healing evangelists in this generation. He is still alive doing ministry by taking precautionary measures not by the anointing only.
Do not be foolish. You need good health to feature in the tomorrow you have been dreaming about. Today is the day to start cultivating healthy habits that will make you live in health and be fit. Eat right, exercise moderately, take supplements If needed, do a comprehensive medical check up and see the doctor If necessary. You have not defied the faith by doing so.
If you don't want to live in sickness tomorrow, cultivate a healthy lifestyle today.
