I was once involved in a case where a preacher denied sexual engagement with a sister who confessed they had something together. This brother vehemently denied and insinuated it was jealousy because of the way he flows in the anointing. Later, several ladies came up accusing him of attempting to sleep with them.
In all, I did not see contrition or brokenness in him. He did not give a damn about what anyone says. He kept preaching here and there but he cut off from everyone who could call him to order from what I perceive.
The opening text tells us where God dwells and the people whom he dwells with: the contrite and humble in spirit. This is profound.
One of the secrets of walking with the Lord and carrying his presence is brokenness. The bible uses the term brokenness and contrition together. To be contrite or broken in spirit is to recognize your failings and return to God in repentance. Also, brokenness is when we are empty of the flesh and we see the need for God and him alone.
In a world where people take advantage of the slowness of God to judge sin hiding under his grace and mercy or flowing in the anointing, we need to point men to their need for brokenness and contrition. David became broken after he realized his wrongs and he cried: "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me" ( Psalm51:10 NLT)
One may ask, what is God looking for? One may be anointed to the mantle and not broken yet brokennes and contrition in heart is what God seeks. God hates it when we become comfortable with our imperfections and rely on fleshly confidence.
Psalm 51:17 says, "The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God" (NLT).
