MAXIMIZING YOUR WAITING SEASON

Proverbs 2:11 *Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you*.

In 2003, I lived with a farmer. He was my landlord. Whenever he goes to farm in another state/town, he stayed several months before returning. I became curious about what he was doing but now I know better.

I am yet to see a farmer who goes to bed after planting. After planting, a wise farmer will keep weeding his farm to preserve the harvest. If he goes to bed waiting for the day of harvest without doing anything prior to the harvest, he may end up harvesting nothing. The period between planting and harvest is a crucial period for any farmer.

I have observed over the years that waiting on God for a miracle, job, spouse or a breakthrough has been misconstrued by some to mean doing nothing while waiting. People in this category think their expectations will fall on them like ripe cherries in their state of idleness. God doesn't work that way.

If you wait on God and you stay idle, it means you're wasting away.

I've observed an extreme form of wrong waiting among some singles, especially sisters. There are some sisters who halted their progress and didn't move up the ladder either in business or career all because they're waiting for a husband.

A number of them think if they make progress in their career or business, men will be afraid to approach them. I've seen single ladies who didn't accept leadership roles all because they had their hopes on marriage. They thought accepting such will hinder their marital settlement.

Unfortunately, the society(especially African society) fuel this wrong mindset and attitude. I have spoken to some persons who believe everything about a woman should have limit because men will run from them if they're successful. This mentality has made so many single sisters to live only for marriage and nothing else.

They halt everything about their progress just to achieve marriage. That's a vivid example of what it is to waste away while waiting. Those who view marriage as the ultimate achievement will be trapped in this evil web.

It is unwise to put your life on hold because you're waiting for the man that will  marry you. What if he doesn't come in 5-10 years? You don't know how long you'll have to wait before he comes.

There are things you can easily achieve now as a single. A wise man will appreciate you more if he meets you doing something meaningful about your progress than to sit idle doing nothing because he'll think of the value you'll add to his life. Afterall, Idleness adds no value.

The value you carry will determine the kind of men who will approach you. You'll attract your kind. Don't be afraid to add value to your life while waiting for your dream man.

Bro, while waiting for that dream job, aquire a skill. Take up that low paying job and stop sleeping at home. Work doesn't kill, it refines. Stop talking about your dream job and how it will pay you big. Start with the small or low paying ones now.

The bible says, "In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury" (Prov 14:23).

Action Point:

What am I doing while waiting? While waiting for that miracle job, don't stay idle. Let your miracle meet you while doing something meaningful with your life.
