Years back, I boarded a public bus popularly called 'danfo'. On the way, the driver drove into a filling station to refuel. His engine was on while the petrol attendant was serving the fuel into the vehicle. All of a sudden, the engine compartment began to smoke and everyone in the bus scampered for safety.
One of the petrol attendants brought a fire extinguisher to the scene. I sat in the front not knowing what was happening. My senses told me an explosion could occur when smoke meets with petrol. I tried to escape like everyone in the bus but the door was not opening easily.
Somehow, I forcefully opened the door. Even though I was obstructed by a hefty man, I pushed him out of my way. Foolishly, I began to run towards the filling station instead of running away from it.
When I came to my senses, I knew If an explosion had occurred, I would have died but I saw God's hand in all that happened. The escape was divine.
I have heard some believers who attributed their safety or escape from an accident as a result of the skills they acquired from watching action movies. That's a slap on the grace of God that delivered you from death.
The psalmist says, 'from the sovereign Lord comes an escape from death'. Think about the number of times you have had a close shave with death. It was not by your power but from the Lord. I want you to think deeply and thank God for the several escapes.
