Recently, several thoughts ran through my mind about the state of the church. I compared the previous generation of believers with the current ones and I spotted a few difference. In this age of social media where some young ministers in the ministry openly criticize some fathers for being too rigid, legalistic and lacking in knowledge, we all need to evaluate many things over again.
That path of holiness and wholehearted devotion to God that many are openly criticizing remains the best. The teachings that promotes anti nomianism has done no good. Now, we have preachers who openly support homosexual relationships and still claim one can be gay/ lesbian and still be born again because of grace. These are two opposing ideas.
I observed that some of the fathers may not know too much of theology as we do but they have a relationship with God that cannot be denied. They did not just know about God from the books but by personal experience. Their "old" method of Christian consecration has kept them relevant till now.
Some of them still keep to their devotion time, pray and study their bibles early in the morning on daily basis without fail. They still practice the no bible no breakfast rule. They are "addicted" to the routines of their consecration and it is paying off but our generation sleeps and wake up on social media yet we want to make impact.
A generation prayed to see God's glory. They saw it in revivals and raw manifestation of power but another generation came and said it is a wrong prayer to pray because we are the glory of God, it is in us yet sin abounds. How do you think God will feel seeing that we have so much knowledge with little godliness?
Instead of criticizing that old time Christianity that depopulated hell and raised men who are still in love with Jesus, why can't we swallow our pride and learn from these old timers? They may not be perfect in knowledge but they have a devoted heart that is unwavering and they love what God loves and hates what he hates. This alone is the reason they are still on track.
The old path of truth, righteousness, holiness, devotion to the Lord, constant fellowship with the brethren, unwavering christian consecration, evangelism and missions is the best.
