YOU NEED BROTHER JOSHUA

August 11, 2022 · Lanre Oyeleke · 3 views

Numbers 11:17 I will come down and talk to you there. I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you, and I will put the Spirit upon them also. They will bear the burden of the people along with you, so you will not have to carry it alone. NLT

I thank God I met brother Joshua. When I was on campus, brother Joshua, a medical student was one of the brothers I was very close to in my fellowship. He was fervent and devoted to the Lord. Till I left him in school, he was not chosen as a fellowship executive but he had a heart of service.

In my 200 level, brother Joshua decided that both of us would be praying one hour every night in front of his hostel somewhere beside the road. I did not have a sound prayer life prior to that time. I was lazy in prayer. However, brother was God's agent of revival sent to my life to stir something in me. At the beginning, I was reluctant and lazy about it because it was burdensome.

As time went on, the fire of prayer came upon me mightily. In fact, at a time, I was the one calling bro Joshua to prayers at night. On my own, I began to wake up around 4am in the morning to pray. It was as though a mantle of prayer transferred from him into my life. My hostel colleagues noticed the change because my flat vibrated as I prayed every morning. My school father got the report and he cautioned I prayed silently. I didn't intend to disturb anyone but I got lost in prayers most times and I didn't know when I raised my voice.

Thank God I met brother Joshua Ojewunmi. Ever since, my prayer life hasn't remained the same. I can't claim to be the most prayerful man on earth but my relationship with Dr Joshua Ojewunmi brought about a shift in my prayer life. Till date, that seed is still growing. Before I left school, I engaged my immediate mentees in several prayer programs and passed the same spirit to others.

Dearest, mentorship is about impartation. It has a lot to do with transference of mantle. It is not about dropping names like some do. In the spirit realm, God can take the Spirit upon a man and transfer to another. This is not the same as the infamous "tapping the anointing" that many people are doing today. It has more to do with walking closely with someone who carries a mantle you desire. Certain anointings can be imparted through association.

If you're lazy in prayer, submit to someone whose prayer life is strong and follow his instructions. If your word study life is weak, prayerfully locate someone with strong and consistent bible study ethics and let the person help you build a culture of studying scriptures. Let him hold you accountable. Some of us learnt these things through people we interacted with. That's one of the offshoots of thorough discipleship.

Stop walking with folks that won't add anything to your spiritual life. Elisha received a double portion through association with Elijah: "You have asked a difficult thing,” Elijah replied. “If you see me when I am taken from you, then you will get your request. But if not, then you won’t.”( 2 Kings 2:10).

My own brother Joshua helped me in building a strong prayer life. Prayerfully locate your own "brother Joshua" and follow closely. Who you follow determines what will follow you.

Action point

Father, I receive the grace to walk with the right people in Jesus name.
