Isaiah48:17 This is what the LORD says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God,who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow. NLT
I've shared this experience of mine several times and I think it is still relevant for didactic purpose. When I was working on my final year research project, I was returning from the lab on a sunny day when I heard the Lord ask me a question: 'why do you want to marry sister 'X'?.
I was shocked because the question came unexpectedly. I couldn't utter a word of reply because I wanted to engage that sister because she was fair to behold, smooth skinned and I love her body structure and carriage. She's what we commonly call hour glass those days. There was no other reason for wanting to marry her other than her beauty.
Somehow, I couldn't respond because I knew where God was going on the matter so I killed the thought and stopped the idea. I couldn't reply by saying "I love her body shape". God was pointing my attention to purpose by asking that question but I couldn't define the purpose for wanting to marry her. Afterwards, God began to teach me somethings about patience and He began to show me the path that I must follow on the matter of marriage.
I thought she was good for me but God had other plans. My judgement was purely based on sight instead of insight. Scriptures says: "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death"( Proverbs 14:12).
Dearest, why do you want to marry that sister or brother? Can you define the purpose of that move you're making about marriage? I won't be surprised If your judgement is based on culture, tribe, social status or looks alone. It is dangerous to focus on container and overlook content. The only thing some brothers see in that sister they're admiring for marriage is her body. Their judgement is based on sight not insight.
Don't be wise in your own eyes, the day you stop playing pranks with God, you will hear Him clearly.
Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths(Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV).
Get to that point where you're pliable in God's hands and don't be rigid. That decision you're about to make, let the Spirit of God teach you what is good for you and not the flesh or worldly ideas.
Father, I receive grace to stay sensitive to your voice and to obey In Jesus name. Amen
