VALUE TEACHING
Nehemiah8:8 They read from the Book of the Law of God and clearly explained the meaning of what was being read, helping the people understand each passage. NLT
Some believers disparage teaching and look down on bible teachers as boring people. They dislike when bible teachers engage in a systematic breakdown of bible doctrines. They just see it as unnecessary exercise yet some of these folks can't explain the "ABC" of the faith let alone deep concepts.
Many have ignorantly made statements like "Who exegesis help"? I don't know how a believer can grow without proper exegetical teaching of scriptures. To preach is to proclaim but to teach is to explain. We win souls through preaching but we disciple believers through teaching( explanation).
Unfortunately, some pastors are in this mix. They believe their calling is enough. No need for learning under teachers where they'll get accurate explanation. Some think as long as they can preach a storm and get responses like "ride on Pastor", they don't need a structured system of learning. They talk down the idea of going to a sound seminary, training programs and exploring avenues for learning. Some won't sit down to learn except from a big name.
In my opinion, the hardest set of people to teach are preachers not church members. I've observed that Pastors that are committed to learning will raise members that are committed to doing same. Don't forget that Apollos was mighty in scriptures yet Aquila and Priscilla observed his inadequacies and they explained the scriptures to him more accurately: "When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately." ( Acts of the Apostles 18:26 NLT)
We preachers need the humility of Apollos to learn when we come across our own Aquila and Priscilla. The later weren't great preachers like Apollos neither were they mighty in scriptures like him yet they had deeper understanding. Apollos must have been a very humble preacher to learn under a couple without impressive CV.
As a bible teacher, you don't know all things. Seek to be taught. Every teacher need a teacher. Learning from teachers should be a lifelong adventure not for a shortwhile. The rate at which you learn should be more than the rate at which you dispense what you've learnt.
If you want to grow, stay under anointed teachers of scriptures. Do not be a Christian that want to hear something sensational or a message that will stir your emotions. Don't confuse bogus and ambiguous words with depth. That someone speaks rhyming words doesn't make him a teacher.
Ability to explain scriptures and breakdown hard concepts using simple language and teaching you how to apply them to your daily Christian living is the hallmark of a bible teacher.
Being under anointed teachers will impart your spirit-man directly and make your root grow deeper. You need a church where you'll be taught not where jamboree is exalted above the accurate explanation of God's word. As a person, I doubt If I can attend a church without Sunday school or other structure of Christian discipleship.
Subscribe to getting explanation for scriptures by sitting under the teachers God has chosen for you. Stop running around, sit down and learn. That's the only way you can grow.
- Father, I receive grace to learn scriptures In Jesus name.
