When I heard the account of a preacher about the late prophet T.O. Obadare, I saw pure devotion to prayer. This preacher said he excused himself from conversations at intervals to be with the Lord in prayer. That is what it means to be devoted to prayer. Gist was not his thing, prayer was. Little wonder why he wrought mighty things.

In life, we are all devoted to something. I can say that almost every human is devoted to food. There is no day we don't eat even when we fast except those doing marathon fasting. Even at the end of every marathon fast, people return to eating.

Almost every normal human eat twice/thrice a day. It shows our commitment to food because we cannot live without it. We are devoted to food.

Same commitment or devotion should be shown to prayer because being in God's presence, communing with him should be the air we breathe without which life will be snuffed out of us spiritually. What food is to our bodies is what prayer is to our spiritual lives.

Some saints of old had an unusual devotion to prayer. I heard about the Moravians who had a prayer chain that ran for 24 hours spanning hundred years. It was an unbroken prayer chain. I try to imagine how they did it. I doubt there is any of such after that time.

Our modern way of praying by typing "Amen" to prayer online is not the bible way of devotion to prayer. What God sees as true devotion to prayer is when we have a personal prayer devotion time, alone with him not that which rests on another man's prayer strength. You will not grow that way.

There is a time to say "Amen" to declarations but your time alone with God is paramount and non negotiable. True praying is done in the closet alone with God not in the public. The strength of your word-based prayer life will reflect in your walk with God.

Leonard Ravenhill says, "Sin will keep you from praying and prayer will keep you from sinning". 
If your prayer devotion is weak, your spiritual life will be weak. If your life will change, let prayer be the norm in your life.
