Back in the days, I was a lover of motivational speakers. Those rhyming words thrilled me and after every motivation session, I made some attempts to do things differently but they were short lived. No one told me about discipline.
I set great goals and plan in the short, medium and long term. Those things were exciting especially when writing them in my diary but I did not achieve some of them. You know why? Not because motivation was bad but due to indiscipline.
Motivation is like buying a car. Everyone is happy seeing a new car but fueling and maintenance is the way to enjoy the car. Fueling and maintenance must be done from time to time to keep the vehicle running. We can liken that to discipline.
Some love motivation talks too. They get thrilled with the rhyming words that comes with motivational talks all because they need a push. From experience, I have come to know that the euphoria of motivational talks are short lived.
After all the motivational talks you have listened to, what is the outcome? It is not because motivation is bad but one thing that gives value to pursuit is discipline. What discipline does is to make you committed to a daily routine that contributes to your overall growth.
Motivation creates in you a desire but discipline helps to bring it into reality. Probably what you need is not motivation any longer but discipline.
Discipline is living as demanded not as desired. It is commitment to pursuit.
You need to decide on a course of action that will define your life in the now and in years to come and be discipline about your pursuit. That is what you need now not motivation.
Heard about a star basket ball player who made 500 throws per day. That was his routine. He stuck to it till he became a star basket ball player who could throw the ball into the net. That is discipline producing result.
Stay committed to one thing. Have a daily routine that contributes to your growth. Be discipline enough to do it daily until your private discipline becomes evident to all.
