When I did my pre marital counseling, the major topic my wife's area pastor taught us was "Decision". He shared the story of a man who decided to drive home with his wife and all his children on a long distance after attending long vigil.
He had the option of choosing to stay back and rest well before embarking on the journey but he decided to take an unwise risk. Alas! His decision killed the whole family. There was no survivor in the accident. Imagine a whole family dying at once due to someone's decision.
I remember vividly that this pastor told me and my wife that decision is everything in life. After that counseling session, we all knelt at the altar to pray and to commit our marriage into God's hands. That counseling session hasn't left me.
One equal power God gave every man on the face of the earth is the power to decide. Man is inherently made to decide his course of action. Action produces consequences. Adam and Eve exercised this power and the whole creation fell.
Man can decide his actions but he doesn't have power to decide the consequence(s) of his action.
Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!".
There is nothing special about a new year. A new year does not automatically confer new things on you except new age and closeness to the grave.
The result your life will produce will be a function of your decision. If you have not decided well, you will not live well in the new year and your life will be like the old year.
We need not idolize new year, new year prophecies and cross over services. Your personal life may not experience newness and improvement until proper decisions are made. Prophecies alone are not enough. By nature, most personal prophecies about greatness are to be worked out and not wished.
Attention should be paid to the person in the new year and his decisions. In fact, there may be no need to set new goals If the person has valid goals he/ she is pursuing in previous years. It is just a matter of time, our life will reflect our decisions.
True decision is backed by actions. You have not made a decision until it is backed by proper action. Decision without action is a mere wish.
I am appealing that you make the right decisions. Prayerlessness is a decision, sinful lifestyle is a decision, reckless spending&lack of clear-cut financial plans is a decision, failure to improve yourself is a decision. All of these are decisions. When the consequences comes, don't blame Satan neither should you blame God.
Decide well.
