John 5:19 So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does ( NLT)

A MODEL OF HARD WORK

I was privileged to reside in a part of this country years back. In as much as I love the people, I saw something I didn't agree with and it miffed me.

I observed a culture of laziness among their males. You'll see a grown man wake up in the morning drinking alcohol with wrapper tied on his body while his wife strap her child to her back, ride bicycle and go to the farm. I wasn't just pleased with all that.

I was privileged to speak to a lady from that side who confirmed to me that such habit exhibited by men seems to be cultural though not pronounced. She told me her brothers also took after their dad in that regard while the ladies do the hard jobs.

God the father is not lazy. He is a hardworker who has strong work ethic. John 5:17 says, "But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I"( NLT).

Jesus confirmed to us that the reason he is working is because his father is always working. In heaven, there is no room for laziness. If our heavenly father is working, why should earthly fathers be lazy?

The bible condemns idleness in strong terms: "Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living"(2 Thessalonians 3:11‭-‬12 NLT).

Unfortunately, I noticed that lazy people have high wishes and dreams. They know the name of good cars, clothes and luxury but are doing nothing to get their desire. Proverbs 13:4 says, "Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper"( NLT).

As a father who loves and want the well-being of his family, there is no legal job that is belittling or below status. Making money doesn't answer to "status". It answers to those who can deploy legal means to get it from where it is hidden.

One day, I told someone I can do uber to make extra cash If need be. The response was "that is below your status"( paraphrasing). Hey! This status you're talking about is not paying my bills, why should I wallow in lack because of "status"?

All those funny mentality is the reason so many graduates are poor and unemployed while the unschooled are landlords. A number of houses in Lagos are built by unschooled men while the schooled pay rent to those men. Can't you see a problem there?

When you think you're bigger than a particular job, you lose the right to live as desired. Why care so much about people's opinion especially those who aren't paying your bills?

Proverbs 14:23 says, "Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty"(NLT). Poverty is man-made not God-sent, kick it out of your life.

Action point

I refuse to be lazy in the name of Jesus Christ. In my life, I cast out the spirit of laziness in the name of Jesus Christ.
