A MODEL OF LOVE( A)
Counseling opened my eyes to so many things and issues about life. For me, it is a cocktail of good and bad exposure. Sometimes, I wish didn't hear certain things and at other times, I feel good learning as I counsel.
For instance, I have seen grown men whom I felt should know better but are not different from boys in their thinking. They have adult bodies but are babies at heart. Their definition of love is self-serving thereby making everything to revolve around them.
When scriptures instructed husbands to love their wives AS Christ love the church, I believe that instruction came to men because one of the things a man will find hard to do is to love AS Christ love the church. That instruction is deeper than it appears on the surface.
True Love is deeper than what we see or hear in love songs and Indian movies. The kind of love most men know is the type that is hormone-induced. They see their wives physical beauty& body contours, their penis becomes erect, tell her some sweet words and then take her to bed yet most women in this category are crying to be loved because sex is not the ultimate expression of love to a woman.
In these days of heightened consciousness about sexual intimacy among couples, some women are allowing their husbands to have their way as a form of duty they owe them but their minds aren't there because the man on top of them is not a loving husband.
The greatest model of love is God the father. Earthly fathers and husbands cannot love as they should If they do not pattern their love life after God the father. The son loved because the father loved. Our sons should love because they see us model it.
Some married men do not know how to express true love because they did not have a father who modeled love to them. As an aside, some women also do not know how to receive love because no one modeled it to them. Parenting plays a great role in what becomes of people in their adult life.
Love is an intrinsic nature of God. The bible says, "God is love". That is the very essence of God exudes love. He is not struggling to love because that is his identity. He is love personified and embodied.
By reason of new birth, the love nature of God is in us. We are carriers of that divine nature: "Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires"( 2 Pet 1:4).
1John 4:7 says, "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. EVERYONE WHO LOVES HAS BEEN BORN OF GOD AND KNOWS GOD".
A man who has come to know God the father should not struggle to love because that nature of love is in him already. A Christian man doesn't need to pray to love, he only need to pray for grace and wisdom to express the love nature he carries.
Father, I receive the grace and wisdom to love like Christ in Jesus name.
