Luke 17:1 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “There will always be temptations to sin, but what sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting!( NLT)
While on campus, I had a funny experience in our fellowship ground. At that time, we used a sporting facility, lawn tennis court. The seats were arranged in elevated steps as it is in most most stadia.
On this fateful day, we had a small gathering. Those who ministered were on the pitch of play while we faced our audience. I was in the choir stand that very day as a drummer.
During prayers, I began to pace the floor of the tennis court. As I lifted my head looking in the direction of the congregation, at an angle of elevation, I saw a lady who sat carelessly with legs wide open.
I screamed as though the Spirit came upon me and I began to speak in tongues with eyes closed. Those around me thought I was lost in prayers but I wasn't. I only reacted to what I saw. I was thrown off balance in prayers.
In the opening text, Jesus made it clear that there will always be temptations to sin. In this depraved world, we cannot put an end to temptation but we can run from it.
We can guard our hearts against falling into temptation by running from all appearance of evil and renewing our minds with the word.
In matters described above, all we need is to exercise self control. You don't need to be lost in lust while looking around carelessly.
That said, I'll like to address the issue of the tempter. There are times some believers surrender themselves to the devil to be used as agents of temptation and stumbling.
Years back, I belonged to a gathering of believers where indecent dressing was the norm from the pulpit to the pew.
There were days we got to the fellowship seeing cleavages of those ministering on the altar. Turning right and left, no one looked different among the sisters. It was a hard fought battle with lust in the church.
One of the brothers through whom I attended the fellowship told me he stared at a lady's butt throughout one of the fellowship meetings. He promised to tell her how much he admired what he saw whenever they meet.
I called myself to order and I left that fellowship. I was there to serve God but my mind wandered often because of what I saw. I got nothing but increase in the tempo at which I lusted.
In verse two of the opening text, talking about the tempter, Jesus said, "It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin".
As a believer, do not be a stumbling block to another person. Do not take liberty in Christ for granted. The way you hang around that sister, hug and call her pet names may be doing more harm than good.
How you dress matter a lot. Don't tell me it doesn't matter neither should you say "I don't care what people think or say about me." There's something the bible call the attire of an harlot( Prov7:10).
The moment a princess put it on, what everyone begins to see is a harlot even though she's a princess.
One of the reasons why some ladies attract irresponsible guys is because of their irresponsible dressing even though they're responsible.
Stop dressing to slay, you're not a slayer as a child of God. You're meant to be a builder. Those who dress to kill may eventually meet a killer.
Brothers are not exempted in this. Some hair styles or cuts are misrepresenting. You are a king. Don't let the people around you mistake you for the mad man at Gadarene.
One of the things the bible said him after legions of demons left him was: "When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons, sitting there, DRESSED AND IN HIS RIGHT MIND; and they were afraid" ( Mk5:15).
Your indecent dressing is affecting someone negatively and may push them to hell. Always remember that there's a "woe" on anyone who makes others fall.
Jesus declared saying: "Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, BUT WOE TO THE PERSON THROUGH WHOM THEY COME!"( Mt18:7).
You can avoid partaking in this woe If you do not allow others stumble.
Father, I will not cause any of your children to fall. I receive grace in Jesus name.
