John 5:19 So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does ( NLT)
A MODEL TEACHER.
While growing up, my dad took time to teach us scriptures. We learnt the fundamentals of the Christian faith from him. I wouldn't have known some of the things I know today If not for him.
He was my first bible lecturer and theological instructor. I inherited a library of quality resource materials from him. Today, some of those books are not available around except one order for them.
God the father is a teaching father. From the old testament, God gave his people statutes and he instructed his priests and prophets to teach them to the people.
Deuteronomy 4:5 says, "See, I have taught you decrees and laws as the LORD my God commanded me, so that you may follow them in the land you are entering to take possession of it".
In the ministry of Jesus, the father taught about the kingdom through Jesus. I believe Jesus was a teacher because his father instructed him. Just as he said in the opening scriptures: “...I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does"( John 5:19).
The ministry of teaching continued in the life of a believer through the Holy Spirit: "But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you" ( Jn 14:26).
A true father who has come to know God the father must be a teacher of God's oracles to his family. Fatherhood is incomplete without teaching.
Abraham exemplified this to the point where God boasted about him: "For I have known (chosen, acknowledged) him [as My own], so that he may TEACH and command his children and [the sons of] his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is righteous and just, so that the LORD may bring upon Abraham what He has promised him" (Genesis 18:19 AMP).
Can God boast about you like he did to Abraham? What are you teaching your wife and children? God's expectation of you is that you sit as the tutor-general of your family not your wife. She's only there to help.
Don't be too busy trying to make money at the expense of your family's spiritual growth and development. Also, he who must teach must learn. The learning must be continuous.
In most churches, only few men attend bible study meetings and teaching programs. As a father, If you don't sit to learn under a teacher, what will you teach your family?
Have a teaching plan for your family. Also, as a father, be a learner.
