Psalm139:24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life. NLT.
A man prayed to God to show him his score card. He prayed this prayer consistently for twenty five years. Later, he had a mighty revelation and God showed him deep things about his life and top secrets of the kingdom. I am not sure many believers of today will be bold to pray the prayer in the opening text. The first resistance may be from those who think it is an old testament prayer that doesn't apply to new testament folks. Another group of persons may see it as the prayer of a sin-conscious person. In all, my opinion is different.
The prayer of David in the opening text is the prayer of a man whose desire is to walk worthy of the Lord. You cannot walk worthy of God if God doesn't show you little things in your life that are unworthy of a professing believer. Most times, we are conscious of 'big' sins and have done well to avoid it. However, there are little things God doesn't like that we may be doing. Kenneth E.Hagin said he repented of joining other ministers to look down on a pastor whose wife divorced him after Jesus appeared to him in a vision. If that faux pas wasn't pointed out, he may feel cool in his criticism of that minister yet God wasn't pleased with his action.
Paul prayed similar prayer in Colossians1:9-10, "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;". This is deep. Do not confuse the prayer of David as the prayer of a sin-conscious person. It is the prayer of a man that loves God and want to please him. The Holy Spirit can point to us those things he wants us to correct in our lives, family and ministry. I've experienced this severally not because I was sin-conscious but because my heart was open to God's leading and instruction. I wish you and I can pray these kingdom prayers regularly. I wish we can pray these prayers in our corporate prayer meetings instead of using prayer as a tool of enemy annihilation.
Father, point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life in Jesus name.
