Phil1:11 May you always be filled with the fruit of your salvation—the righteous character produced in your life by Jesus Christ —for this will bring much glory and praise to God. NLT
This is another powerful Pauline prayer. He prayed for the brethren to be filled with the fruit of their salvation which is the righteous character. There's a difference between the gift of righteousness and fruit of righteousness. The gift of righteousness is the gift we received when we gave our lives to Jesus. It is the imputed righteousness of God in the life of a believer that makes him stand justified before God regardless of his past and moral failures(Rom5:17, 2Cor5:21). It is a gift not a reward. You can't have it more or less.
However, when we talk about the fruit of righteousness, we are talking about the righteous character a believer manifest. This is what we call the fruit of the spirit(Gal5:22-23). That's what Paul was talking about in the opening text. He was praying that the believers will be filled with the fruit of the spirit. What makes people say, "that man is truly a Christian" is not the syllables of tongues he speaks but the character of Christ he manifest. According to Paul, it is the manifestation of that Christ-lIke character that will bring praise and glory to God.
You cannot be too Christ-like. In as much as you need to abide in Christ and his word to produce the fruit of the spirit, apostle Paul has shown to us that you can also pray the fruit into your life. So what are you praying about? The ultimate desire of every believer should be 'Christ-likeness'. Producing the fruit of the spirit is the full expression of Christ-likeness. Today, read through Galatians 5:22-23 and pray those virtues into your life.
PRAYER Father, fill me with the fruit of salvation- the righteous character in Jesus name.
