NO SMALL ASSIGNMENT

December 13, 2020 · Lanre Oyeleke · 2 views

Colossians 4:17 And say to Archippus, “Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you.” NLT

After we held our first outreach, I thought that was all God wanted us to do and nothing more. After the crusade ended, I didn't press further to know the next step because I felt that assignment was too small for me. I packed my bags, dismantled my team and returned to normal life waiting on God to give me "bigger" instruction for ministry. During my waiting period, I checked a church in Lagos to see if I can be employed into their pastorate. A senior minister recommended the church to me. I lost my peace about taking up the pastorate of that church. After a while, God impressed on my heart to continue what he had started through me. It took almost a year before we held another outreach.

You see, I waited for several months looking elsewhere because I felt this "little" calling can't occupy my time. I have tried to unravel the reasons why ministers deviate in ministry. Among other reasons, the reason why ministers deviate from their calling is because they value their ministry less. They think one calling is higher than the other so they tend to switch to a line of ministry that have people's recognition and human validation. Some do not catch the vision God is impressing on their heart because of preconceived notions about what a ministerial calling should be.

In God, there are no small calling or assignments. Don't despise your ministry because it doesn't put you in the limelight or on the stage. You're in ministry to please one person- Christ. For example, If God has called you into children ministry, do not look down on it because your congregants( children) can't give fat cheques or tithes. God place his children in a line of ministry for eternal purposes not for pocket purposes. Your reward is with him not man. Don't be consumed with the glitz and glamour you see in the life of another minister and abandon your calling. In the end, faithfulness to the trust committed into your hands is what God will reward not the size of ministry.

PRAYER Father, I'll not deviate from my calling in Jesus name.
